I wonder if the best way to make our front yard attractive year round is to add small evergreen shrubs along the sides of the entrance walkways.  Perhaps small boxwoods like Wee Willie or Dwarf English.  

I must begin making a timeline for the garden soon.  What to get, and perhaps get some of it this weekend.
